I had no self confidence to do anything. My coach helped me gain the conceit to drive me again.?

ok i know this sentence doesnt make sense because of the word conceit. however in the dictionary it defines conceit as "an excessively favorable opinion of one's own ability" which clearly is what im looking for. Now can somebody then give me a more definitive definition of conceit? perhaps you can elaborate. I think I know the answer but it would help if somebody else explained it to confirm my reasoning.
